Am I eligible for a Medicare rebate?
To claim a Medicare rebate you must book an appointment with a suitable therapist who is a Medicare provider and see a GP who will put you on a Mental Health Treatment Plan and refer you to a therapist.

In order to claim a rebate from Medicare you must:
- Have a Mental Health Treatment Plan (previously known as a 'mental health care plan')
- Have a referral from your GP
- Have a valid Medicare card
- Book with a therapist who is a Medicare provider
How much rebate will I get back?
This changes, so it's often best to check with your therapist. But as of Jan 2023 the rebates are usually:
Psychologist is $92.90
Clinical Psychologist $136.35
Social Worker: $81.90
How do I claim the rebate?
We will process your Medicare claims on your behalf after each session. Just make sure you add your valid GP referral and MHCP.
Why do only some therapists offer a Medicare rebate?
Medicare only covers some therapists, normally these are psychologists and mental health social workers. This is a Government imposed restriction.
Even though you can not claim a rebate from Medicare for other therapists, you may still be able to claim one through your private health insurance.
How do I get a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP)?
You must book an appointment with your GP. They will ask you a series of questions and based on this they may prepare you a MHTP and refer you to a mental health practitioner.
